The short answer
Meta Andromeda is the first step in how Meta chooses ads. From tens of millions of ads, it shortlists a few thousand that might suit a person, and later models rank that shortlist[1]. Because it looks closely at the ads themselves, your creative now does much of the targeting. If your Facebook and Instagram ads feel weaker this year, the fix is usually more variety in creative, not narrower audiences.
It's also why so many people are searching for it. In India, interest in "meta ads" hit a 12-month high in October 2026, and searches for "andromeda meta ads" rose 450%[4].
What actually changed
Meta announced Andromeda in December 2024 as a retrieval engine with 10,000 times more model capacity than before[1]. Through 2025 and 2026, Meta kept building on it, alongside a separate ranking model called GEM that scores the ads Andromeda shortlists[2]. Agencies often use "Andromeda" as a loose name for all of these changes together.
| Before | Now |
|---|---|
| You told Meta who to show ads to with detailed interests | Meta finds the people, largely based on what your ad shows and says |
| Many ad sets, each with a narrow audience | Fewer ad sets with broad audiences, so the system has room to learn |
| One winning ad, copied in small variations | Several clearly different ads, each speaking to a different kind of customer |
| Creative refreshed when results dropped | New creative added regularly, before fatigue sets in |
What "different creative" really means
Changing the background colour or swapping one word doesn't count. Meta's system treats near-identical ads as the same idea[3]. Real variety means a different angle, a different person or a different format.
Five angles most small businesses can make
- The problem: show the everyday frustration your product or service fixes.
- The proof: a real customer, review or before-and-after.
- The offer: price, bundle or festive deal, said plainly in the first two seconds.
- The demo: your product being used, or your service being done.
- The person: the founder or team explaining why you do it differently.
Mix the formats
- Vertical video (9:16) for Reels and Stories.
- Square or 4:5 images for Feed.
- Carousels for products, menus or step-by-step stories.
- Use Meta's flexible format to give one ad several images or videos, and add a few different headlines and primary texts[3].
A checklist for small budgets
- Run one campaign per goal (leads, sales or messages) instead of many small ones.
- Use broad targeting within your delivery area, and let the creative decide who responds.
- Launch with three to six clearly different creatives, not one.
- Give each test about a week before judging it, and judge on leads or sales, not likes.
- Add two or three new creatives every few weeks, and pause the ones that clearly lag.
- Send people to WhatsApp, a call button or a short form, and track every lead back to the ad.
If you're in the US or selling to customers abroad, the same rules apply. Andromeda runs across all of Meta's ads, not just in India.
Common mistakes we see after the update
- Splitting a ₹500 a day budget across ten ad sets, so none of them learns.
- Running the same video with three different captions and calling it a test.
- Turning off ads after two days because the cost per lead looked high.
- Judging ads on reach and likes when the goal is enquiries.
- Using only polished brand photos. Real, phone-shot videos often work as well or better.
